About the Opportunity

Avento Health is seeking an experienced residency trained  Pediatric Pharmacist to join a leading hospital team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate has hospital or ICU experience, and BCPPS certification is highly valued but not required.

Please note: This is a recruiting post managed by Avento Health. The selected candidate will be employed directly by the hospital, not by Avento Health.

 

Schedule

  • Day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Must be flexible for rounding with physicians and attending interdisciplinary meetings
  • On-call rotation: one full week every eight weeks (after hours and weekends).

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to pediatric ICU patients, including pharmacokinetic monitoring, dosing adjustments, and therapeutic consultations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and promote safe, cost-effective drug use.
  • Participate in rounds, patient care conferences, and multidisciplinary team discussions.
  • Develop and support pharmacy programs focused on patient safety, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
  • Precept pharmacy residents and students as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, pharmacy regulations, and accreditation standards.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
  • Completion of a PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency required.
  • Must have already completed residency training; current residents will not be considered.

 

Experience:

  • Recent clinical pharmacist experience in a PICU or acute care pediatric hospital required.
  • Prior experience in pediatric critical care pharmacy strongly preferred.

 

Licensure / Certification:

  • Current pharmacist license (or eligibility for licensure) in the State of Texas .
  • Pharmacy Sterile Product Certification through an accredited program preferred.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong clinical judgment with expertise in pediatric pharmacotherapy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Ability to educate and influence multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and hospital pharmacy systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
